Should I be wearing a surgical mask?

Most people don’t need to wear a surgical mask. If you are sick you should wear a mask so that you don’t cough on others, and healthcare workers who have frequent contact with sick people need to wear masks.

Masks generally only help to prevent someone who has corona virus from giving to others. If you are well, you don’t need to wear a mask.  There isn’t a lot of evidence that says that if a lot of people wear masks it will reduce people spreading the virus.

If you think that you need a surgical mask, contact your GP or a hospital and they can give you further information about surgical masks.
